In 2017 solar energy will attract more investments all over the world rather than coal, gas and nuclear energy combined. This opinion was shared by the chairman of the Expert Council on the preparation for the participation of the Russian Federation in the world specialized exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 Vladimir Sidorovich, the industry newspaper "Energy and Industry of Russia" writes.
"If you look at the statistics for the past three years, almost 100% of the net increase in energy capacity came from renewable energy, primarily solar and wind power, so technologies that were previously considered alternative have become a basic energy source", - Sidorovich said.
According to the expert, the share of solar and wind energy in the market is growing very fast. Due to economic accessibility, it became possible to introduce new trends massively.
"It is not surprising that the raw material segment of the electric power industry and nuclear generation feel uncomfortable in a situation like this. The thing is that discussion on solar and wind energy is about how many gigawatts will be introduced, for example, by 2020, that is, the development trend itself. There is no such clarity with regard to the nuclear one. There is an opinion that it is impossible to solve the climatic tasks indicated by the Paris Agreement without nuclear energy and this is quite true, but nevertheless the prospects are not obvious", - the expert added.
It should be noted that according to forecasts of energy industry analysts, in 2017 market prices worldwide for solar batteries will drop to 0.25-0.26 US dollars per watt of a set capacity which corresponds to a 20% drop for the year. At the same time, according to forecasts of the world's leading energy companies and some world institutions, alternative energy will take the market gradually in 20-30 years and will make up only 10-15 percent of total consumption.
