The Kazakh leader noted that about 80 thousand hectares of forest have been planted around the capital of Kazakhstan and by 2020 its total area will reach 100,000 hectares. The President drew attention to the diversity of the animal and plant world of the "green belt" and told about the plans for increasing the plantations.

"I want to express my gratitude to the scientists and the foresters for the great work that has been done. It's not that easy to grow trees in this area. Now the vast expanse of the forest is located here .The forest areas around Astana have become a natural oasis where animals and birds live freely,” Nazarbayev noted.

He stressed the important role of forest plantations around the city in creating the favourable climate and improving the ecology of the capital. In addition, the President of Kazakhstan noted the results of the construction of a recreational zone on the territory of the forest, calling the "green belt" the "lungs of the whole country.”

“As long as people live here, the forest will stand here. This is the wealth of our country. The international exhibition EXPO 2017 is being held in Astana, it promotes the strengthening of its image as a city adherent to the principles and ideology of "green development.” The park zones are being actively improved in the capital,” the Kazakh leader said.
