EXPO visitors were showed the first large wind power plant of Kazakhstan

22 June

The Ukrainian delegation of the world specialized exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 visited the first large wind power plant (WPP) of Kazakhstan. "Akmolinskaya pravda" newspaper writes about this.

"It will soon be two years since the first wind power plant was launched near the city of Ereimentau, which was the pioneer of implementation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev's message to the people “Strategy” Kazakhstan-2050”: new political course of the established state", to provide half of the total energy consumption in the country through alternative and renewable energy. The project worth KZT 18.9 billion was implemented with the participation of JSC “Samruk-Energy” and the “Wind Farms of Ukraine” company,” the newspaper notes.

The WPP is located in the Ereimentau mountain system. Each of the installations is 85 meters high, and the diameter of the blades is 93 meters.

"This is the first megawatt class wind power plant in the history of Kazakhstan with a capacity of 45 megawatts. Our company represents the interests of the state in the electric power industry and implements the country's plans to switch to “green energy”, told the guests, the managing director of JSC “Samruk-Energy” Kanysh Moldabayev.

Before starting the construction of the WPP, the energy potential of the locality was studied. There were also some difficulties in adapting the equipment to the harsh climatic conditions of the Akmola region.

"As a result, all 22 wind power installations with a capacity of 2.05 megawatts and its own substation of 220/35 kilowatts function smoothly. The annual output makes it possible to save up to 100 thousand tons of coal. In total, since the commissioning, it has provided generation of “green” electricity in the amount of 330 million kilowatt hours, which has prevented more than 300 thousand tons of gases from entering the atmosphere,” the material says.

The plans are to implement the second phase of the construction of this wind farm, increase its capacity at first to 50, then up to 205 megawatts. In the future, the achievement of 300 megawatts will allow the production of up to one billion kilowatts of "green" electricity per year.

Let us note that the WPP in Ereimentau is not the only EXPO object that is shown to the visitors of EXPO, which can be used to extract wind energy. In the national pavilion of Kazakhstan, you can see four options for using the Windrotor Bolotov, which also produces wind energy. On the threshold of the world exhibition EXPO 2017, a sample of scientific engineering thought of Kazakhstani scientists was also installed near the highway leading to Astana from the capital's airport. In this case, the installation is not decorative, but is used in practice - the turbine supplies energy to a number of objects of the exhibition and the city.
