Unscrupulous Astana taxi drivers, who artificially inflate prices during the world specialized exhibition EXPO 2017, will be forced to provide services for free. This was reported in the press service of akim of Astana.
“There are memos in Kazakh, English and Russian languages in all taxis of the unified service, which indicate the approximate cost of the trip to the capital's facilities from the airport and railway stations. For the information of passengers, I inform that if you traveled by taxi of a unified service without a taximeter, then such a trip will be free of charge,” the deputy akim of Astana Malika Bekturova noted.
She commented on the recent incident with a metropolitan taxi driver who drove a Hungarian citizen from the airport to the right bank for 40 thousand tenge.
“First of all, he had a taximeter that he did not turn on. Secondly, on the taxi service stand are indicated the approximate prices of the trip in the direction the tourist was travelling to, so the taxi driver intentionally set the price of the trip too high. Due to the fact that the taxi driver reimbursed the damage, pleaded guilty and repented, he was not brought to justice. I think this case will be a lesson for him and his colleagues,” Bekturova said.
It turned out that the driver who shortchanged a foreigner had recently joined a unified taxi service.
“Previously, he used to be in a private transportation, but now he decided to legalize. But the habits, apparently, remained the same," deputy akim of Astana joked.
Let us remind that a unified taxi service was launched in Astana in early May specifically for the world specialized exhibition EXPO 2017. The investment project "ASTANA TAXI" is implemented on the initiative of local authorities.
