How EXPO celebrated the National Day of Great Britain

29 June

The world specialized exhibition EXPO 2017 was visited by His Highness the Duke of Gloucester Prince Richard. He arrived in Astana for the opening of the National Day of Great Britain, the "Kazakhstanskaya Pravda" newspaper writes. Prince Richard made a welcoming speech and said that he was glad to visit the first EXPO exhibition in Central Asia.

"My great-great-grandfather founded the first EXPO exhibition in the world in 1851 when 25 countries and more than six million visitors took part in the exhibition. Architectural constructions that remind us of this event that are still in use have survived. At that time the main purpose of the EXPO was the establishment of trade and economic relations and today about 500 British companies are already operating in Kazakhstan and we intend not to stop there, especially, this year the United Kingdom and Kazakhstan celebrate the 25th anniversary of cooperation", - the Duke mentioned.

Actors of the London Modern Ballet Theater performed on the stage of the amphitheater in front of the guests of the exhibition. In addition, throughout the day visitors to the UK pavilion were entertained by Scottish piper John Ray and the jazz band Brassroots. Within the framework of the National Day, readings of the popular work of Joan Rowling "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" were held.

Let us remind that the visit of Prince Richard to EXPO became known in late March.

The theme of the British pavilion is "We are Energy". The pavilion is made in the shape of a Kazakh yurt.

It should be noted that a number of projects of British innovators entered the top 100 start-ups to be presented at the exhibition in Astana. The central exhibits of the pavilion of the British at EXPO include high-strength material graphene which is already called the material of the future.
