The world universal exhibition EXPO 2025 may take place in the city of Yekaterinburg of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the "TASS" news agency with reference to the International Exhibition Bureau (IEB) in Paris.
"Today Russia sent a letter to the IEB with an application for the organization of the World Exhibition in Yekaterinburg in 2025. A message from Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev addressed to the Secretary General of the International Exhibition Bureau Vicente Loscertales was conveyed by the representative of the Russian Federation at the IEB Alexander Turov," the bureau representative said.
As the agency notes, Yekaterinburg previously fought for the right to organize the EXPO in 2020 but the competition was then won by Dubai. According to the information of the IEB, this time Paris and Osaka are intending to hold the exhibition. However, the bureau could not clarify whether there are other potential applicants for the competition at the moment.
"We can say that the reception of applications is open until 18:00 (Paris time), then we will announce the final list of participants", - the representative of the IEB said.
It is planned that the exhibition will be held from May 2 to November 2, 2025. The theme of exhibition declared by Yekaterinburg for the contest is "Changing the world: inclusive innovations for our children and future generations".
"Following the filing of an application to the IEB, the full log of the applicant city will be awaited which should be submitted in September. Then the evaluation stage of the candidates will begin: the special commission will begin its work in early 2018", - the publication concludes.
The EXPO 2025 exhibition venue will be determined at the 164th session of the General Assembly of the IEB in November 2018.
