Police officers cooperate with students during the EXPO due to poor English language

25 April

The Kazakhstan edition of Ratel.kz found out the reason for attracting students to work on security at the world specialized exhibition Astana EXPO 2017. Previously, the republican media reported that the police will be assisted by about 200 university students.

At a briefing dedicated to security issues at the EXPO, the newspaper journalist asked Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Musakanov about ways the police will communicate with foreign tourists.

"Of course, we cannot teach all of them at once but we selected 200 employees who can communicate more or less freely", - said a senior police officer.

English-speaking police officers will be on duty at police checkpoints, in duty units and will be senior on the patrolling routes.

"Having managed to gather 200 policemen out of 5 thousand, for whom the English language is like a dark forest, Kalmukhanbet Kasymov’s subordinates (the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan - the author's note) realized that this is clearly not enough. That is why they faced the need to involve 174 university students. They will have to patrol the streets together with the police officers. The Ministry of Internal Affairs promised not to offend them with wages and food as well as provide free accommodation", - the material said.

Let us remind that earlier it became known that at the moment the rescuers of Astana and the doctors of the Akmola region are undergoing training of the basics of the English language to reduce the language barrier between the emergency response staff and guests of the exhibition.
