Vatican has high hopes for EXPO 2017 in saving the planet

2 June

Vatican sees in the world specialized exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 an opportunity to unite people and save the planet from a possible catastrophe. This was announced by His Eminence Cardinal Peter Turkson, the Chief Commissioner of the Holy See at EXPO 2017, "Capital" business edition reports.

Vatican participated in international exhibitions on a regular basis, beginning with the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. Two years ago, the Holy See received a prize for the design of the pavilion at the Milan EXPO from the International Bureau of Exhibitions.

"For Vatican, EXPO cannot be reduced to chaotic and vivid exhibitions for the sake of entertainment, to temporary shopping centers with original products, etc. EXPO connects people, reminding that humanity is a family and we must gather from time to time to take care of common needs and plan their future", - Turkson said.

According to the cardinal, world exhibitions can change the lives of people on the planet for the better.

"EXPO and its halls are always eager to tell the story, which is characterized by innovations. These innovations talk about how good life would be like if the new products, new approaches and ways of decision-making were introduced. Therefore, world exhibitions can change the status quo indeed. However it is obvious that it is important to encourage people to adopt innovations, but that requires education. and EXPO makes it very massively and effectively. Every pavilion visitor comes to the exhibition as to a training session: he or she meets different people, gets new information. Visitors are shown a particular application of a technology and attractive results. If such learning process at EXPO is done effectively, it can make a difference in the life of the society", - Turkson added.

The role of the forthcoming exhibition in Astana was also noted earlier, during the presentation of credentials by Ambassador Zhanar Aitzhanova of Kazakhstan to the Vatican Pope Francis. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, State Secretary of the Holy See who attended the meeting noted EXPO 2017 as one of the most effective platforms for the development of bilateral cooperation.
