Astana universities have changed school year start and end dates because of EXPO

19 May

The beginning of the next academic year in the higher educational institutions of Astana was postponed to September 10. Such a decision was made in order to reduce the transport load in the capital during the world specialized exhibition EXPO 2017, Tengrinews.kz reports.

"In order to reduce the number of vehicles in Astana during the holding of EXPO 2017 by higher education institutions, the issue of changing the completion dates for the 2016-2017 academic year and the beginning of 2017-2018 has been worked out. The completion of the 2016-2017 school year is scheduled for May 25, 2017, and the beginning of 2017- 2018 academic year - on September 10, 2017,” reported in the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

These changes, as was clarified in the ministry, do not concern educational institutions in other cities of Kazakhstan.

It became known earlier that the summer holidays for schoolchildren of Astana may be extended because of EXPO. As explained by the Vice Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Elmira Sukhanberdiyeva, the Education Department of the capital had proposed to conduct the first bell as usual on September 1, but to start the school year from September 12.
