High-temperature plasma to be produced at the Kazakhstan thermonuclear reactor on the first day of EXPO

6 June

The central object of the world specialized exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 will be the thermonuclear reactor Tokamak. Its launch is scheduled for June 9, IIA DKNEWS.kz writes.

Tokamak KTM is the first specialized installation for scientific research and testing of materials for future thermonuclear, nuclear reactors and technologies. The project will be exhibited in a separate pavilion.

"Tokamak is a toroidal chamber with magnetic coils, inside which a heated plasma with a temperature of several million degrees is located. The retention time of this plasma will be about 5 seconds. The problem of Tokamak is the retention of this plasma. On June 9 during a teleconference with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev we will get a real plasma on this tokamak", - said Yerbolat Koyanbayev, head of the materials testing department of the branch of the Institute of Atomic Energy of the RSE NNC RK.

The thermonuclear reactor is planned to put into operation in late 2017 or early 2018.

Let us remind that the pavilion "Kazakhstan" in the spherical building "Nur Alem" at the world specialized exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 will be divided into two main zones. The first one will introduce the guests closer to the host country and the second one will be called "Creative Energy". The central part of the national pavilion will house the model of the Kazakhstani material science thermonuclear reactor "Tokamak". It is an experimental thermonuclear installation for research and testing of materials under conditions of energy loads close to ITER (international thermonuclear experimental reactor project). According to Russian media, the thermonuclear reactor itself will be put into operation in the city of Kurchatov by the beginning of Astana EXPO 2017.

In mid-May, new details appeared about the pavilion. It became known that Kazakhstan will present 28 projects at the exhibition.

Earlier, Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said that works on the preparation of the national pavilion EXPO of the host country of the exhibition came to the final stage. It is already known that a colorful light show will be shown on the walls of the pavilion building at night.
